Conister Bank 10 League Week 8 Results

Darren Bell wins another calm and sunny '10' with 22:08, closely followed by fastest Junier Josh Knights with a time of 22:11. Quickest Vets were Peter Gage and Gianni Epifani who both recorded a time of 22:32. Winner in the Juvenile class was Jamie Dudley with 23:20 and fastest Lady was Laura Wasley 24:26.

Dominant Win for World Champion on stage 13

World Road Race Champion and Local Laxey Man Mark Cavendish took a dominant Win on the 13th stage of this years Giro d'Italia today. The Team Sky Professional scored his third win of the this years race after 121km of racing. Cav later said on the Team Sky website "The guys went out and just rode their hearts out today and I’m so, so proud. After they did that I had to win; I had to find some gap to get through." 

The race now heads into the moutains with a hill top finish set for Stage 14 after 205km of racing.More from cyclingnews.com here More from TeamSky.com here

Conister Bank 10 League Week 7 Results

Another windy week in the grim North for 105 riders in this weeks 10. Cycle Premier -Kovert/Team Manx Telecoms Tom Black took the victory on the night (22:22) ahead of Rapha Condor/TMT rider Tim Kennaugh (22:26) who returns to riding 10's for the first time in two years. Josh Knights continues to show good testing form to take fastest Junior (22:47) closely followed by Jake Kelly (23:15). Team Manx Telecom's Peter Gage finished ahead of TMT's Rob Cormode and Juan Kinley to take the Vets win (22:37) this week. Jamie Dudley was the quickest Juvenile (22:46). Alison Clague was fastest Lady and Lady Vet (27:01).

Kennaugh Wins Tour of West

Team Manx Telecom rider Tim Kennaugh (Rapha Condor Sharp) has won the Tour of the West. The third round of the Black Grace Cowley sponsored road race series saw a field of over 30 riders in the A race set of for 5 grawling laps at 9am with the B at 9.15am. The race over 72miles saw a string of early attacks but it was Kennaugh and Hatcher who took the race winning move early on in the second lap. Team Manx Telecom rider Aaron Livsey along with Andrew Roche and Tom Black escaped from a strong group of 10 on the last lap with Roche grabbing third spot at the line with Black fourth and Livsey fifth. Martin Hall from Manx Viking Wheelers won the B.  A results here and B here. Full report later + photos when available.

Ferguson shines in Bikestyle Handicap

Young Phoebe Ferguson took a convincing victory in the second round of the Bikestyle Handicap Road Race Series last night. Ferguson another talent to emerge from the popular Royal London 360 series kept clear along with three others to fight it out at the finish. The wind played a major factor with a severe head wind from Sandygate up to finish past the airfield. The scratch group consisting of Andrew Roche,Aaron Livsey,Robin Garry, Tom Black, Tim Kennaugh and Cal Crutchlow worked well to catch the groups on the third lap. Black managed to escape from the large group of over 40 riders on the road to take 5th with Jack Wolsencroft, Leon Mazzone and Trevor Kirkwood completing the top 8. Gavin Quayle took 2nd with David Heath 3rd and Justin Bowen the first lady in 4th spot. Results here

Cavendish takes Second Giro stage.

Manx Missile Mark Cavendish took his second Giro stage when when he sprinted to victory after 199km of racing in Fano on Thursday. The Team Sky rider beat Matthew Goss and Daniele Bennati who claimed 2nd and 3rd. A group of 4 riders jumped away in a break lasting over 170km with the last 20km being totally controlled by Team Sky, FDJ-BigMat, Orica-GreenEdge and Liquigas-Cannondale. In the closing metres in looked like Cav had gone to early as Goss closed in but the World Champion delivered a final kick to take his 70th professional victory. Peter Kennaugh finished 32nd. Microgaming in Ulster

Team Microgaming competed in the tough 3 Day Tour of Ulster Stage Race over the bank holiday weekend. Andrew Roche, Darren Bell, Elliot Baxter and Team Manx Telecom riders Aaron Livsey and Tom Black completed the team with Bell and Baxter finishing 3rd on the opening and final stage. Baxters strong ride on Day one came after some tough climbs and plenty of late attacks with a group of 3 which clipped away with about 4 km remaining. This contained Elliot, James Moss, and the stage winner Adam Armstrong. Unfortunately Aaron Livsey punctured early on and was left stranded by neutral service, so his day was run. No surprises in the 10 league this week! Tom Black, Darren Bell and Josh Knights once again take the podium for this weeks 10. First Vet Rob Cormode continuing the close battle with Peter Gage. Fastest in the Juv cat was Jamie Dudley and quickest Lady once again is Laura Wasley with Wendy Sandford taking fastest Lady Vet.  


UPDATE: The times below all seem out by 30 seconds, the start times are wrong. Subtract 30 seconds from your time until they're fixed. Positions remain correct.

Knights 6th in IOM Tour but Holden star of the show

Mountivation Cycling Academy rider Josh Knights finished 6th overall in the tough Isle of Man Junior Tour held over the bank holiday weekend. Knights who is a member of Manx Viking Wheelers finished 20 seconds behind race winner Joe Moses from Sportscover Altura with Jochum Buchener 2nd and Joe Kirkham from Hargroves 3rd.

In Fridays prolouge Jake Kelly riding for Team Microgaming IOM finished just short of the podium with a time of 1min 46sec 2seconds short of winner Jacob Ragan from Max Gear RT. Knights was 11th with Alex Haddock 33rd and Nick Corlett 34th. Aaron Lund won the Youth D Boys prolouge and Elizabeth Holden took a convincing win in the Youth A Girls. Mairi Harrison also took victory in the Youth E making it a fine opening night for Isle of Man riders.


Saturdays road race round Peel was always going to be a tough one and the Microgaming Junior riders equitted themselfs well with Jake Kelly 21st, Alex Haddock and Nick Corlett finished 36th and 37th. Josh Knights from Mountivation was 23rd. Sebastian Baylis from Mid Devon took the win.

The afternoon saw the Youth riders take to the tough circuit round Braaid featuring some tough climbs. In the Youth A Girls it was local talent Elizabeth Holden who was the star of the show again increasing her overall lead in the Tour with just one day left.


It didn't stop there for local success and Matthew Davies clinched a fine win in the Youth A boys on Sunday. Alexander Braybrooked 2nd and Danny Fox 3rd. Leon Mazzone was 4th with Jamie Dudley 5th. Overall Jamie Dudley just missed 3rd spot with team mate Leon Mazzone 5th and Nathan Draper 6th. Certainly some top talent coming through.

In the Junior Boys Josh Knights finished 4th after a tough weekend of racing with Microgaming Isle of Man rider Jake Kelly 12th. Nick Corlett finished 16th and Alex Haddock 37th.


Elizabeth Holden made it a 3rd podium spot in three days with team mate Sophie Black 3rd. Manon Lloyd took the win. Overall Holden took a deserved victory and Matha Gill 2nd. Sophie Black finished 4th.

Cavendish sprints to Giro Win

World Road Race Champion Mark Cavendish took an impressive victory on Stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia beating Matt Goss and Geoffrey Soupe after a crash on the last corner. The 206km stage saw an early breakaway with Alfredo Balloni (Farnese Vini), Olivier Kaisen (Lotto Belisol) and Miguel Rubiano (Androni Giacattoli-Venezuela) quickly building up a huge lead. The gap topped out at 13:15 with 145km to go. With 40km to go the trio were relled in by the fasting moving peleton and yet more attacks were launched. Sky controlled it well and delivered Cavendish to the line in style and as usual Cavendish was first to praise his team mates. More from cyclingnews.com here

Black wins Conister Bank Week 5

A big difference from last weeks washout, there's lots of PB's this week under near perfect conditions on the Sandygate out-and-back course. 


Cycle Premier -Kovert (TMT) rider Tom Black  has won round five of the Conister Bank 10 league with a time of 21:32, closely followed by Darren Bell on 21:41.


Jost Knights is showing good form for this weekends Youth Tour with the fastest Junior time of 22:05. 


Gianni Epifani shows that the London Marathon didn't hurt his bike legs and was the fastest Vet with 22:49. 


Quickest lady once again goes to Laura Wasley with 24:44. Lady Vet winner Alison Clague with 26:06 and quickest Juv was Jamie Dudley with 23:49.

Varley on the podium in Gila opener

Simple Green Bike Relgion rider Christian Varley has finished 3rd on the opening stage of the tough Tour of Gila stage race in Silver City new Mexico. Varleys team mate Louis Meintjes took the win with Coulton Hartich taking second. The race continues today. More here  Results here

Microgaming in Ulster this weekend

Team Microgaming Isle of Man are sending a Senior squad to the tough Tour of Ulster stage race in Ireland this weekend. Vannin rider Andrew Roche will lead the five man squad with Team Manx Telecom riders Aaron Livsey and Tom Black also riding. Elliot Baxter and on form Darren Bell complete the line lap. Follow the race updates here on irishcycling.com. It's one of Irelands top races and is often used as a preparation race for the An Post Ras shortly after. Node 4 Girodana are also due to start.

Cav 3rd in Romandie opener

World Road Race Champion Mark Cavendish finished 3rd in the 3.34km Individual time trial at the Tour de Romandie today. The Team Sky rider was just 6 seconds of the Win which team mate Geriant Thomas took in 3.29.43. The race continues tomorow with a 184km stage. More from Cyclingnews.com here

Four Wins out of Four for Bell

Ellan Vannin Appleby rider Darren Bell took his 4th consecutive win at the weekend in the local 25 mile time trial held in the North of the Island. Bell has also won the last two rounds of the Consiter Bank 10 Mile time trial league and also took victory in the Teare Trophy road race a week earlier. Scott Contessa rider Anna Christian finished 16th in the opening round of the Womens Road Race Series in Cheshire at the weekend. Sarah Storey from For Viored team took victory with Anna's team mate Molly Weaver taking second. More here

Varley up there in Sea Otter Classic

Team Manx Telecom rider Christian Varley finished 17th overall in the tough Sea Otter Classic stage race in the USA over the weekend. Varley riding for Simple Green/Bike Religion was up there in every stage which opened with a 70km cirterium then a 70km road race followed by a tough 8km time trial. The race closed with a 120km road race which saw Varley finish 27th in a sprint finish with James Wingert grabbing the win. Overall Andy Jacques-Maynes from Kenda/5-Hour Energy took the General Classification. Varley forms part of the Microgaming squad heading to the tough week long An Post Ras in a months time. Varley 7th in Sea Otter Opener

Simple Green Bike Religion rider Christian Varley finished 7th on the opening stage of the Sea Otter Stage Race Classic yesterday. The race saw a 70km criterium race round the Laguna Seca Raceway with Andy Jacques-Maynes from Kenda/5-Hour Energy taking the win. Varleys team mate Connor McCutcheon finished second. The race continues today with a 69km road race sponsored by Sram. Sunday is a 8km time trial with a 120km circuit race bringing the race to a close. More here
