Tory Kinrade Update

Isle of Man Sport Aid recipient Tory Kinrade raced in Rounds 1 and 2 of the North Region Qualifiers for the National Omnium Series last weekend. Both events took place at the Meadowbank Track in Edinburgh. Round 1 should have been held in Dundee but the recently refurbished track and surroundings were still not totally complete.

The format of each day was the same - a scratch race, devil takes the hindmost, points race, sprint and 1 KM time trial.

This was Tory's first competitive outing of the season in qualifying races for the National Omnium Series Final and she finished in 2nd place overall on each day which should stand her in good stead for qualifying early for the Final which will be held at Halesowen in August. Tory was 6th in last year's National Final.

Tory's overall results were only bettered at the weekend by Hannah Blount who is a Great Britain Talent Team rider and who is a 2nd year Under 16, as opposed to Tory who is a first year.

To reach the National Omnium Series Final competitors have to qualify as being in the top 8 finishers overall in their regions.

In preparation for the National Omnium Qualifying rounds Tory recently competed at the Herne Hill Track in London and raced in the Womens age category in the second Spring Omnium event, finishing a solid 6th overall.

Tory is sincerely grateful to Isle of Man Sport Aid and her sponsors - Colin Bell of Eurocars, Louise Byrne of Old Court Chambers and Tower Insurance Company Limited. A big thank you also to the Headteacher and staff of Queen Elizabeth II High School for their support and allowing Tory the time off to travel and compete.

Cavendish sprints to Giro Win

World Road Race Champion Mark Cavendish took an impressive victory on Stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia beating Matt Goss and Geoffrey Soupe after a crash on the last corner. The 206km stage saw an early breakaway with Alfredo Balloni (Farnese Vini), Olivier Kaisen (Lotto Belisol) and Miguel Rubiano (Androni Giacattoli-Venezuela) quickly building up a huge lead. The gap topped out at 13:15 with 145km to go. With 40km to go the trio were relled in by the fasting moving peleton and yet more attacks were launched. Sky controlled it well and delivered Cavendish to the line in style and as usual Cavendish was first to praise his team mates.
