Mark Cavendish secured a 4th world title on Sunday by winning the Madison at Lea Velopark in London partnered by Bradley Wiggins in front of a packed house.
Cav used his speed and acceleration to rack up points during the sprint laps during the early stages of the race and Wiggo then used his endurance skills to establish a break from the main group on lap 20 and worked with Albert Torres from Spain to gain a lap, which then put them on the same lap as the leaders and into the overall lead as they had more points.
Despite a tumble during the closing laps, a dazed Cav quickly remounted and continued to work with Brad to protect their lead.
This was the 3rd time Cav has won a World Championship Madison, previously in 2005 with Rob Hayles and then in 2008 with Bradley Wiggins. After the finish Brad gave Cav a piggy-back around the track centre in celebration.
There is now talk of the duo entering the London Six Day later in the year so better start thinking about booking those flights now!
